The curiosity Japan’s gambling fans have fad for long is when the first casino is open in Japan. It has attracted great deal of attention for years, and there once was a rumor that it would be available before the Tokyo Olympic games in 2020 (actually held in 2021 after one year postponement due to the coronavirus pandemic). Still, according to Japanese media, it would emerge around 2030 in Osaka.
The first casino reportedly will be mainly for people from overseas, so Japanese citizens will be required to pay an admission fee. Regarding restrictions imposed only on its citizens, casinos in Singapore are the same.
South Korea’s citizens are not allowed to play in most casinos. But it opened a casino a few hundred miles from Seoul where Korean people can enjoy games. This suburban casino created local employment but has sometimes favorably contributed to the local economy. The casino created job opportunities in the area, but it also led to a vast number of gambling addicts and suicides. Considering the challenging situation the neighboring country faces, Japan has no choice but to be conservative and deliberate in moving its project forward.
Japan has seen an increasing number of international tourists following the goverment’s announcement of the aim for the tourism-based country. Emergence of casinos in 2030 will possibly attract tourists who are tired of visiting congested tourists destinations like Kamaukura and Kyoto. And also, Japanese gamling fans will no longer need to travel around the neighboring countries such as the Phillipines and Macau after 2030!
